aviator is flying an incomplete pattern, advise him to perform a landing
check before handoff to the final controller for a precision-approach
radar approach or starting descent on final approach for an ASR approach.
d. Position Information
Issue position information at least once before the aircraft starts
final approach. Use the point of intended landing or the approach end
point (or a point in space) as a reference point for the position report.
e. Final Controller Changeover
Issue final controller changeover instructions. Always include the
name of the facility when changing the radio frequency for final approach
guidance.
Phraseology:
(Aircraft identification), CONTACT (name of facility)
FINAL CONTROLLER ON (frequency).
f. Communications Check
The final controller requests a communications check on initial
contact.
Phraseology:
(Aircraft identification), (name of facility) FINAL
CONTROLLER. HOW DO YOU HEAR ME?
g. Transmission Acknowledgment
During the final approach, instruct the aviator NOT to acknowledge
further transmissions after he contacts the final controller.
Phraseology:
DO NOT ACKNOWLEDGE FURTHER TRANSMISSIONS.
h. Missed-Approach Instructions
The abstract from FAAH 7110.65F in Figure 1 tells about missed-
approach instructions.
i. Low Approach and Touch and Go
When an aviator plans to execute a low approach or a touch and go,
and before the aircraft begins final descent, give correct departure
instructions for him to follow on completing the approach.
Climb-out
instructions must include a specific heading and altitude unless the
aviator maintains visual flight rules (VFR) and contacts the tower.
