b. Once flight leaders have been briefed, they carefully plan their missions and brief their crews in
compliance with AR 95-1 using DA Form 5484-R. A postmission briefing will be conducted again in
compliance with AR 95-1, using DA Form 5484-R.
NOTE: A further explanation and sample of DA Form 5484-R are located in the
Appendix.
c. During tactical operations, present a daily general briefing for all aircrew aviators to provide
information on operations for the following 24 hours. In this manner, preflight mission briefings are
shortened and focused on the specifics of the mission.
d. The aviation safety officer should consider safety in all phases of tactical operations. These
operations include training from preexercise planning to after action reports.
2.
THE MISSION DEBRIEFING
Just as equally important is the debriefing. The debriefing allows for the total compilation of
information from the mission. This information is useful to the commander when assessing the overall
impact of his forces against an enemy. The debriefing can point out weaknesses in the planning and
execution phases of the mission. The debriefing can also reflect the effectiveness of the unit training
program. It can point to deficiencies in the program that might require more attention.
