FRAME 9
The runway type (surface) is shown in the airport sketch as a
drawing, and the legend for runways can be found in the extract (page
211) under the heading "RUNWAYS/LANDING AREAS." At Elkhart Muni in the
sample, Runways 9 and 27 are shown as a solid black line. By using the
legend, you see that the solid black line indicates a hard-surfaced
runway.
Other surfaces are also shown, such as metal and other than
hard.
Most entries will be either hard-surfaced or other than hard
surface.
If an airport sketch is not available, the space provided for the
sketch will indicate the surface following the length. The contractions
for the surfaces can be found in the legend under the heading "RUNWAY."
An example of this is shown in the sample at the Stallion AAF entry.
After the runway length (RWY 7600') is the surface (ASP). Review the
surface symbols listed under "RUNWAY" in the legend (page 206).

FRAME 32
At Hog Holler Intl, Runway 09 has the following listed as lighting:
L6, 7, 9, 10. Since a number follows the "L," you know that permanent
lighting is located there.
The "6" indicates HIRL, the "7" indicates
high intensity approach lights, the "9" indicates a VASI system, and the
"10" means they have REIL.
An asterisk (*) preceding an element
indicates that it operates on prior request only.
