c. Use the approved codes listed in the contractions handbook to indicate aircraft type. For VFR
and IFR operations, indicate the aircraft's radar transponder, distance measuring equipment (DME), or
area navigation (RNAV) capability by adding the appropriate symbol preceded by a slant as shown in
Figure 1-5. When forwarding this information, state the aircraft type followed by the word "slant" and
the appropriate phonetic letter equivalent of the suffix.
