OVERVIEW
LESSON DESCRIPTION:
As an air traffic controller, you will thoroughly understand and perform the tasks of selecting runway for
use; requesting, recording, and issuing PIREPs; and providing traffic information or advisories.
TERMINAL LEARNING OBJECTIVE:
ACTION:
Select runway for use; request, record, and send PIREPs; and provide traffic
information or advisories.
CONDITION:
You will apply the rules and procedures for selecting the proper runway to be
used by arriving and departing aircraft. You will determine when to request
PIREPs and what information must be recorded with the report and the agencies
to which these reports should be sent. You will provide properly formatted and
complete traffic information and advisories.
STANDARD:

INTRODUCTION
This lesson will help you understand proper runway selection while taking into consideration wind
direction and velocity, pilot request, operational advantage, and impact of aircraft noise. Weather reports
received from pilots (PIREPs) of hazardous conditions are the triggering mechanism for the issuance of
